Bills Introduced – 11-10-25
Yesterday, with just the Senate in Washington, there were 44 bills introduced. Only one of those bills will receive additional coverage in this blog:
HR 6009 Defense Biotechnology Strategy Act Houlahan, Chrissy [Rep.-D-PA-6]
Biotechnology
I can find no bills in the 118th Congress that would be similar to HR 6009. I will be covering this bill because, as outlined in the text, manufacturing biotechnology is for the most part indistinguishable from chemical manufacturing.
MIP Legislation
I would like to mention in passing two bills that will not receive additional coverage in this blog:
H Res 869 Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. Bergman, Jack [Rep.-R-MI-1]
S Res 494 A resolution observing the 50th anniversary of the date on which the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior, and remembering the 29 lives lost in one of the worst storms ever recorded on the Great Lakes. Klobuchar, Amy [Sen.-D-MN]
Probably like most Americans alive in November 1975 (at least those without close ties to Great Lakes shipping) the news of the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald did not make much of an immediate impression on my life, but then came along a Canadian song writer, Gordon Lightfoot (and his song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald), and the maritime disaster became a part of the national psyche.
Interestingly, these two resolutions are the first time that this ship was mentioned in congressional legislation. Today this seems odd because we now seem to have some congress critter or another submitting resolutions for the consideration of tragedies great and small on an almost daily basis. See for example (and intending no disrespect to the victims and their families) H Res 870.
