Today, CISA’s Office of Chemical Security updated their CFATS Monthly Statistics website to provide information on the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program. The statistics reported involve activities for the Chemical Security Inspectors in support of the program during the month of June 2023 and the status of the facilities in the program at the end of the month. The overall number of CSI activities was up from the previous month. There was a decrease in the number of covered facilities with 95% of the facilities in the program having an approved site security program.
CSI Activities
The table below provides a summary of the data that OCS has been reporting for the last four months concerning the activities conducted by CSI.
The activity numbers are still below the COVID era (March 2020 to present) average in each category except the total number of activities which in June was 218 with the average being 212. Variation from average remains below one standard deviation. It is difficult to tell how this represents agency utilization of assets because we cannot tell from the reported data how many hours each activity consumed or how many CSI were involved in each activity.
Facility Status
The table below shows the status of facilities covered by the CFATS program at the end of the month.
While we see an impressive increase (19) in the number of tiered facilities being reported there is an even larger (20) facility drop in number of facilities with approved site security plans. This, combined with a relatively small decline in the number of facilities with authorized site security plans leaves an 11 facility net-decline in the number of covered facilities.
