Today CISA’s Office for Chemical Security (OCS) updated the data on the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) Monthly Statistics page to show data from August 2021 for the activity of chemical facility inspectors (CSI) and the status of facilities covered by the program. We continue to see a high level of CSI activity and we had a net loss of sixteen facilities from the program.
CSI Activities
The table below shows the activities of CSI for the month of July.
The number of compliance inspections is the highest number of such inspections that the Department has completed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the total number of CSI activities has fallen off slightly from the near peak last month, we can see that one of the reasons for the relatively low numbers for Authorization Inspections and Compliance Assistance visits was that the CSI were more involved in the Compliance Inspections than normal last month.
Facility Status
The table below shows the status of facilities in the CFATS program.
The Facility Status numbers this month are very unusual. The number of ‘covered facilities’ at the end of last month was at the lowest number (and down 16 from last month) we have seen since the pandemic started; actually, the lowest number since the end of the CSAT 2.0 implementation. On the other side of the ledger the number of facilities in the program that had approved site security plans is at the highest level that we have seen since the CSAT 2.0 implementation was completed. And to make things even more interesting, the number of facilities with authorized site security plans is the lowest over the same period of time.
